THE TRADITION CONTINUES IN 2008
Celebrate the protection of the Sacred Lands of Ka`u this Labor Day Weekend at the 2nd Annual Malama Punalu`u Culture and Music Festival. This FREE, TWO-DAY EVENT will feature the best in HAWAIIAN MUSIC and HULA and over 25 Cultural Practitioners.

The two day festival is for everyone — adults and families and children of all ages. Come and celebrate the magic and mana of Punalu`u that is home to some of the most endangered species in the world including the Honu`ea (Hawaiian hawksbill turtle.) The festival will showcase Hawaiian Traditions through music, chant, hula and cultural demonstrations creating a unique two day “living classroom” that will promote the 2000+ year old Hawaiian teaching tradition, ho`o hana lima (hands on learning.) The Malama Punalu`u festival will also feature LIVE MUSIC with Multi Na Hoku Hanohano Award Winner Amy Hanaiali`i Gilliom, Grammy Winner Ledward Kaapana, Eddie Kamae, Mike Kaawa, Analu Aina, Sugah Daddy, A Tribute to Uncle George Na`ope, Darren Benitez, Manoa DNA, Brudda Smitty, The Band Kau, Kekuhi Kanahele, Darlene Ahuna, Kanaka Pila, Diana Aki, Punalu`u Boys
and many others.
Also performing at the festival will be some of the best in Hawaiian Hula, including: Halau I Ka Wekiu (winner of best overall at 2007 Merrie Monarch Festival,) Halau O Kou Lima Nani E, Halau O Kahikilaulani, Halau Kukui Malamalama O Kona, Halau O Po`ohala and Halau O Kawananakoa.
The festival will also feature: 20 Cultural Practitioners for Keiki and Adults, 15 Hawaiian Craft Booths, 15 Community Booths, Ka`u Art Show, Silent Auction and Raffle with GREAT PRIZES!, Musician instrument and Equipment Swap, 12 Food Vendors, Water Slide and Train Ride for keiki and a multi-media exhibit about the natural wonders of Punalu`u. Lawn chairs and mats welcome. Please NO coolers.
