Thousands attended the Malama Punalu`u
Culture and Music Festival Sept. 1 and 2 in
Na`alehu and celebrated the beauty and mana
of the sacred lands of Ka`u and Hawaii with
amazing, powerful hula, incredible music and
inspiring demonstrations of the Hawaiian
culture. Over 2,000 attended the festival
each day, including hundreds of children who
enjoyed the Keiki Hawaiian Craft tent. Ohana
from all across
the islands came together to show their
support for the protection of sacred Punalu`u.
SEPT. 1ST IS NOW PELE HANOA DAY!
At 5:30pm on Saturday, Sept. 1, 2007, Pele
Hanoa, President of Ka`u Preservation was
presented a proclamation from Governor Linda
Lingle and Lt Governor Aiona that proclaimed
September 1st - WINIFRED PELE HANOA DAY
throughout the state of Hawaii, in honor of
Pele Hanoa’s dedication to the protection of
the sacred lands of Hawaii and her lifelong
efforts to preserve the Hawaiian Culture.
The proclamation was read by Skylark Rosetti
and presented by Robert K. Lindsey Jr.
Trustee, Hawaii, OFFICE OF HAWAIIAN AFFAIRS,
councilman Bob Jacobson (pictured above with
Pele Hanoa) and Event Chairman, Jim Spielman
who also presented Pele Hanoa with the Ka`u
Preservation Founder`s Award.
