At aprox. 5:30pm, Wed., Sept. 19th at the Sheraton Keauhou Bay Resort, the Hawaii County Council passed Resolution 169-07 with a 5 to 4 vote in favor of the Resolution. This resolution will allow the county to begin negotiations for the purchase of 150 acres at Punalu`u that will protect all lands at Punalu`u within 2,000 feet from the shoreline.
The passage of this resolution is an important first step in protecting all of the sacred lands at Punalu`u.
OVER ONE HUNDRED PEOPLE GATHER FOR HISTORIC DECISION
Testifying from across the island, via video in Hilo and in person at the Council Meeting in Kona, over one hundred people came to voice their opinion on the Resolution. Although the developer’s agents bussed in over 70 people to testify against the resolution and even after the completion of a hundred page report by James Kent and Associates that attempted to destory the grass roots movement and volunteer spirit of Ka`u Preservation, the Resolution passed.
Council Members Emily I. Naeole, Bob Jacobson, Brenda Ford, Angel Pilago and Pete Hoffmann voted in favor of the Resolution.

COUNCIL APOLOGIZES TO KA`U PRESERVATION
Before the vote was taken, council members apologized to Pele Hanoa, President of Ka`u Preservation for the contents of the report by Jame Kent and Associates that made false and untrue statements about Ka`u Preservation. The report cost county tax payers over $80,000 and was an attempt by pro-development agents to stop the Resolution.
